Dear Mike,
I have heard a rumour that the IEE may cease the adult 3D mouse competition
after this year. Can this be true?
I helped to organise the regional competition at Bristol earlier this year.
It was difficult getting young people to take part. It takes quite a lot to
grab their interest. One of the chief motivators was the promotional video
showing the 3D mice and the prospect of seeing them live at the Exeter
competition, on Saturday.
The kits from Swallow introduced the pupils to the problems involved in
electronic control systems and, for those who completed the project and
took part at Bristol, it generated an enthusiasm to progress. In this, I
believe, the IEE Micromouse Competition has achieved its aims, but without
the vision of what is possible it may never have got started.
I have been asked to organise next years regional competition and will be
looking examples, from the competition at Exeter, to promote the concept
again. Don't stop, now that we are winning.
